Congrats on the farting. They're usually fun...usually.
I'll be pestering someone for a pickup for tomorrow...then I can probably hitch a ride with Miles afterward...he lives nearby.

I took a quick look in my PHB and DMG and did not find a specific rule governing forced movement into blocking terrain (e.g. walls, pillars). If someone can show me specifically where it says that the forced movement into blocking terrain does not require a save to be knocked prone, please point it out to me. I will take a more thorough search when I get time.
If no such specific rule is mentioned in the rulebooks (or updates/errata, which I haven't looked into), then I say it is DM discretion. However, as we discussed on Sunday "It makes sense" is not always the best argument for "It is a fair rule". In the interest of fairness and balance, such a house rule of saves versus knocked prone in this situation can/should be disregarded. Lastly, house rules should always be discussed with players before player actions are taken. Everyone should know the rules - that's only fair.

Just because its not specifically pointed out in the rule book that you don't have a chance to be knocked prone doesn't mean that automatically the reverse is true. It specifically says that the "catching yourself" saving throw is triggered as a result of you being knocked off a precipice or pit. Read as written there is nothing in the power Thunderwave or in the push, pull, slide rules that would indicate that a "catching yourself" save is required in the absence of a precipice or pit. Your ruling is 100% house rule based on you thinking it makes sense. And on that point I also don't agree because it doesn't make sense that someone knocked into a wall has a greater or even equal chance to fall than someone who flies back and has nothing to "catch him." If anything the wall would probably give him a bonus because he can use the wall to brace himself. However, if we go down that road it becomes clear that such a situation would need to be covered by multiple lines of rules were it to be an intended effect due to the variable situations that can come up. In other words, as Blizzard would say, "working as intended." Furthermore, I think from the DM's viewpoint it's a bad idea. You are adding a mechanic to the power that was not intended. Yes you can argue that monsters get it too when they push, pull, or slide, but compared to PCs that can use the power constantly, turn after turn, things will be balanced far too great in favor of the PCs. And giving Phil and I extra, unearned, toys to play with is rarely going to be a good idea. I'm not a big fan of house rules unless they really bring something outstanding. If it ain't broke don't fix it I say.

Hopefully someone can cover for me.

Ok. Disregard what I just posted in general chat to Vince. My next game is tomorrow. Unless not enough regulars show in which case we'll do something else geeky, like DnD minis battles or something.
