As we slowly close towards the date of the Dark Sun release, I want to alert you guys to this.
First off. I am not going to deal with shenanigans. Basically it means I do not want to deal with stuff you do in game unless it is something completely within the realm of your character. Don't start taking random trophies from your slain foes just because you think it's cool. Don't start randomly hoarding or stealing treasure even though your character background is completely against it.
Secondly. I expect the players in the Dark Sun campaign to at least own the dark sun campaign guide. Reserve yours at AGR if you expect to play in my game.
Thirdly. Not required but I would love it if you guys owned or had access to character builder. I already share my account out with Stephen and JP in our group. Perhaps 2 or 3 of you could go in together and pay for a yearly sub. This would really help out in terms of your characters being (at least mostly) rules correct. As in bonus stacking etc.
The Turn. Also not required but please imagine your character's background AND aspirations. Kyle and I were talking and he had a brilliant idea about disallowing orphans because he felt family would help further the game world. I'm not saying no orphans but try to give yourself a connection to the world. Don't be just some random adventurer dude.
The River. This goes along with number 4. Wishlists should now be "general" as in I no longer want to see "Dear Gods of D&D, please have a monster randomly carry a... oh let me see the AV2 again?... +3 Frost Shortsword to go along with my Lasting frost and Wintertouched feats even though I have no other frost attacks." I can understand the WANT for item combos, but please, just keep it to "I want a shiny +X (where x is 1+ your current item/armor)" or "I would love some boots that have defensive capabilities." I will try to tailor it to your character's abilities but really. Random monsters won't carry that new shiny weapon that is like 1 weapon out of thousands of combinations every time.
Lastly. Fuckin roleplay. We're not playing table top World of Warcraft. I want some actual character interactions. I want you guys to use your character's abilities other than "pew pew pew". If you're in combat and you're trapped in a rocky chasm. Fucking shoot the rocks, try to cause a land slide. I want you guys to be inventive in the game. Try to ask the right questions to NPCs. Don't just be like "I'm rolling this diplomacy check to see if the NPC will give me a discount." No. Talk to the NPC. Ask me, the DM, questions about the NPC. The game is limited to its weakest player in imagination.
So there it is. If you don't think you can fulfill those items. Don't play in my game. We're not sure exactly WHEN my game is going to run (as in what day). But tentatively it will be filling JP's spot in August. Or maybe it will be a Sunday game, who knows.
So there you have it.
