The name is Zach, and I'll be joining you at the table tomorrow with Umi Skysong, an elf barbarain/fighter ex-gladiator slave turned mercenary.

Are there any special rules for starting equipment? I believe it was 100gp and you choice of a +1 Magic Weapon, +1 Amulet of Protection, or +1 Magic Armor. The +1 Magic Weapon or +1 Magic Armor are the vanilla Magic Weapon and vanilla Magic Armor items.

FYI: You don't need to be trained in Heal to Treat Disease... I don't know how Feluth would feel about that :p

Sharo had the highest heal check anyways. and i'm not sure i would have allowed assists on it. What can you really do to assist for something like that? Stay up and cheer leader with a heal check?

It would be kind of like the show House. Although House is the mastermind of the group, he needs his lackeys to bounce ideas of off so he can eventually arrive at the correct solution to cure the patient. So assisting a heal check would be like that - random little pieces of information and/or opinions that lead the main "healist" to the most proper way to cure the diseased.

In house they are all trained doctors. Your opinions/etc could potentially hurt people since you don't actually have medical training. "No no! I heard drinking the root of the Rock Cactus after it has been steeped in the urine of a kank is the way to survive Sun Sickness!" would equal a -2 to the heal check instead.

Are you saying we need to be trained in Heal to make an aid check to Heal, even though we don't need to be trained in Heal to use it normally?

I'm saying specifically for Treat Disease, it makes more sense for the check to come from someone trained, even if the check is to aid.
You gave house as an example, and i gave you the logistics of the example.
I'll keep poking holes until you give me a solid example.
You understand that regardless of game mechanics, I like to work with logic as well.
What you might have said that could sway me is that "I'll roll aid to stay up, and watch over Feluth, provide warm towels, etc, to help Sharo."
Remember, as a DM, I hate when you guys just say "I roll acrobatics because the game says to." Well what do you do with it? Do you try to just slip out of his grasps? Do you say "Acrobatic check 27!" and expect the monster to say "herp derk okay, i let you go, my reflex only 17"
Which is why I always have to question the group's RP. "Oh, he looks big, he'll just carry our stuff and be called Wagon, don't mind that he could be sent from Hamanu to take the fragment from us or anything."
There was a lot of things I was expecting the party to do while in Tyr that they didn't.
I was expecting Rhogar to do research or attempt to do some more research on Ul-Athra, though following the shard worked out.
I was expecting Nantiki to contact the Veiled Alliance/his clutch group to let them know what is going on.
Etc.
You guys have tied yourselves into the world, but seemed to have forgotten each of those ties every time you play.

In regards to treat disease, first you say you would not allow assists on it because it doesn't make sense. Then you poke holes in my example. Then you give us a suitable answer on how to use the aid Heal check. So I'm confused.
I dunno, maybe RP is the answer to everything. But sometimes when I try to reason out the realm of logical possibility on something that would make sense to me, it doesn't make sense to you. And when things make sense to you, sometimes it doesn't make sense to me. Just like the heal check example we're discussing, my logic didn't work for you, so you say no - but then you provide a suitable answer that seems logical to you that will work. I know you like to work with logic, but sometimes it seems like it's a relative topic. At that point it comes down to the DM saying yes or no, regardless of the rules. It becomes, what makes sense to Phil - and that may be alright, it's your world.
So now I guess I'll just shoot out ideas to see what happens and shut up when you say no - because again, it is your world. I'll just treat the game like M&M where we basically throw out the rulebook and roll with whatever is at the table (Yay for Joseph's playstyle!).
As for Nantiki calling Davis' character Wagon and allowing him to join based on what he can carry, I thought I was playing in character. Nantiki was raised in a pack with almost a hive-mind, survivalist mentality (even though they hate when people say they do have a hive-mind, cause they really don't). If he was going to be a member of our party, he needs to contribute to it. Nantiki's "practical" mind went straight to - "Oh, he's quite large. He's big so he can carry lots of stuff. My fellow members and I have trouble carrying stuff. If he comes he can carry more stuff. More rations = better survival rate. Alright! You can join!"
I'm bad at RP, but I'm sorry that part didn't play out as you had envisioned it - but I did have character roots in mind when I played out that scene. I tried to emphasis that fact by calling him Wagon when I couldn't pronounce his real name and getting all giddy by clapping all 4 of my hands when Rhogar finally understood why I called him Wagon.
I guess I could have contacted the Veiled Alliance though; but then again, I'm bad at RP. I also kind of wanted to keep that from public Meta-gaming knowledge :( Since I didn't explicitly state that in the PM, I guess it's my fault; but that's why I haven't posted it on my character page.

Jesus freaking christ, you don't like "gray" areas do you. In regards to treat disease, first you say you would not allow assists on it because it doesn't make sense. Then you poke holes in my example. Then you give us a suitable answer on how to use the aid Heal check. So I'm confused. Go scroll up, I said i'm not sure i would have allowed it, and i might have allowed it. Basically going back to the rule of "How you play it." You better fucking believe that if you walked up to Pelor, and told him that you were Pelor and he was a fake, I woudln't give a damn what your bluff check was. He wouldn't believe you. I dunno, maybe RP is the answer to everything. But sometimes when I try to reason out the realm of logical possibility on something that would make sense to me, it doesn't make sense to you. And when things make sense to you, sometimes it doesn't make sense to me. We're playing a ROLE PLAYING GAME. Yes, I'd like you to act out and RP which would help the situation. I'll just treat the game like M&M where we basically throw out the rulebook and roll with whatever is at the table (Yay for Joseph's playstyle!). No. F-that. Don't say you're going to throw out the rulebook. That's complete and utter crap. YES there are rules in the game. YES I bend them for both my benefit and yours. But the rules are set to help the game survive. Alright! You can join!" Here is the playthrough of events leading up to Davis' new character, from Nantiki's POV: Group finds crazy artifact that they believe will restore Athas to a green world. Nantiki knows that this is very important to him. Nantiki tries to get a hold of the gem, many times. During one of the rests, Nantiki is visited by the Templar of Urik, in which Nantiki is forced to tell the Templar of everything. Nantiki remembers this because Nantiki has never dreamed. Next day, a large man, with tattoos that are described by him as NOT PRIMAL, wants to join the party. Nantiki says "You can carry stuff, ok!" There is no suspicion? No questioning of motives? Is that really how your character would play? EDIT: Oh and I do enjoy that you called him Wagon. You can keep claiming you're bad at RP. That's why we play. For you to improve. But remember, I forced you guys to root yourselves into the world so that you guys have more fun. Just try to remember your own character tidbits. I found that writing up the stuff for Kyle's game, in the format that was described, it helped me create and understand my character more. Sorry about revealing that. There is a lot of Public Meta Gaming regardless of what is said at the table. You don't know that Rhogar is a templar, yet you constantly distrust him for no reason. Anything that should not be explicitly stated should also be marked to me as "Please keep this from party" from now on. Such as things like "I want to betray the party." "I'm secretly olem." "I want to RP that I am courting Feluth's brother." Pretty much I want our games to flow with these ideals in mind: The rules are a guideline, the game is played by the players, led by the dm, and enriched by everyone's imagination. If you want me to just stay by the rules and just the rules, then why play? I mean would you rather this? "You see a gnoll. He walks up to you, exactly 6 squares with his movement. He makes an attack roll. He hits. You take 16 damage." Or this? "You see a gnoll, wielding a fierce battle club. Roaring in anger, he rushes up to you and swings his club down. <22 beats your ac? Ok> His club connects on your shoulder in a fiercesome smash. You take 16 damage." Would you rather: "I got a 10 heal check. I aid Sharo." Or: "I got a 10 heal check, I'm not trained so Nantiki stays next to Feluth and exchanges the towels on his forehead every hour." Do you want to Role play or Roll play?
