Back outward and upward, felling a few strange beasts along the way, one that had found itself a Barovian and eating of his flesh was disturbed, a Bodak, dark denizen of Khyber no less.. Slew it they did, dispatched the things essence back tot the pits yet wondered much of why Barovians would be out abroad away from safety and in harms way.
Back to the village once more, yet found they not welcome smiles and happy townsfolk, but snarling fiends and rotten faces, all pus filled and plague ridden!
Zombies, of a sort were upon them, their crazed hunger seekinbgflesh and blood warm to their cold lips. Back they were beaten and hacked they were defeaten. the church, ran one dark cloaked curse spitting cleric, the Priest Danovich, all maddened and filled with rue, his plot and ambush foiled.
To the Temple they followed, and noted the changes since they left those few days ago, all blood red drapes and pennants flying, candles and flame in devilish delight blazed from within illuminating the stained glass and casting shadows within.
"Honor the Dead, Honor the Dead." Was all that Danovich's ravings in a ritualistic cirlce was he found, hand bloodied in offering, then when seeing his pursuers he turned gleeful smile upon his maddened tear wracked face... "Honor the Living, Honor THE LIVING!" Battle and blood, and then leaping below through ruined hole to the understory and more ambush from denizens of the dark.
Entering they sought out reason and wanted answers, yet all they would get were dark divine assaults and more undead and more undead until a Bone'd skeletal snake arcane caster was revealed below in the understory and Doru, precious and doted on only son of Father was found bloated and festering with undeath, which by hand not of the righteous man and also was the Father, ultimately slain.
Cursing a threat, to warn the Mistress of their deed, the bone snake took off through narrow hole and burrow through earth to who knew where..?
A diary and a vile foul book the Liber Blaspheme was found and given into young hands, inexperienced reader, unpatient skimmer, learner, of naught. This perhaps would undo most of the rest of the nights deeds fro soon they left to visit the Burgomaster and seek audience with the town leader, for surely there would they find answers to the plague and the problems that had befallen the town.
Yet more sadness and horror did they find as night approached, and the sick daughter was resting, so too did the deathly corpsefilled town find the home of the last survivors of the terrible rot.
