If specced for pure defense, paladin's can be pretty sticky. But not at this low of a level. I will have to tone down the encounters for 5 players (if everyone shows up) but it will still be tough. Who knows. Perhaps you guys will find some healing potions within the piles of flesh if you guys look. Duly noted.

I'd be willing to roll up a healer.

That would be great! There seems to be a theme here. First Antoni's wizard turned into a paladin, now the ranger|? hybrid becomes healer(x).

I now have a Brook that's a hybrid Ranger/Warlord. Damage took a big hit, but she's a bit tougher and can heal. If that's not enough, I've got a Bard I could bring instead.
Does our paladin have lay on hands?
Also, I could probably make a 12:30 start time this Sunday, if we want a little more time.

Good, but what about the story?
What happened? Did they recover the item? Did we destroy the tower? Did it need destroying? Who was the baddie in the end?

Yes, thank you for toning it down a bit. Especially since it was only me, JP, and David who showed up.
The baddie was was a female, elf, necromancer of sorts. Brook recognized the enemies under the elf's control as his old party, the adventurers that the Seeker's Guild sent first. One of the them was a half-elf that would dominate one of us on its turns, a dragonborn that used area burst magic, an orc brute that would strike back when hit, and a gladiator (soldier) of a race (human?) I don't remember.
The elf was using a staff that turned out to the Maker's artifact that we were sent after. The staff seemed familiar to Durnalla but it wasn't until after the encounter that we recognized it a the spinal column of an original warforged; the elf used it to control the undead adventurers. After making a successful perception check about 5 rounds in, Durnalla realized this and attacked her. The elf used the staff to defender herself but as Durnalla continued her assault the threads of magic that allowed her control over her minions would break and a random minion would drop dead-dead.
Harbek seemed a bit hopeless toward the end and was about to throw himself into a hole in the floor that was the opening to the chute that fed to the ground floor with flesh and other gore.
The first encounter was a solo monster, the elevator operator, that would daze us upon hitting us, Durnalla and Harbek primarily. Brook turned his attention toward one of two (there were four but Phil RP'ed that two of them burst as the encounter began) glowing vials that released ghostly minions. The minons had an aura that penalized saving throws. So that combined with dazed was worrisome. Durnalla killed a large number of minions with an at-wll that allowed her to hit the solo and apply damage to another target marked by her. The turning point in this encounter was deciding whether to have Brook, who was in the middle of the room, go after the furthest (from the solo) vial or pound on the solo. Early on we had him go after the vial and that was the wise thing to do since the minions just kept coming.
In the end, we had spent every single one of our surges, which you expect, and we were well bloodied. Tranquility returned to the tower and the surrounding area.

The baddie was Corelyn, who was corrupted by the necromancy that happened from her initial spell. Eventually Succumbing to the darkness she believed she could control death. The last group of adventurers were one of her best experiments and she was able to control them by enhancing her powers through the Maker's device and the necromantic powers being channeled from the tower.
As she was dying she let out a final gasp and exploded in a massive explosion, black necrotic energy flying towards the adventurers. But, luckily, at that same moment, Hazael finished the ritual and almost instantly a pulse of primal energy filled the air, turning the necrotic black energy into flower petals.
Recovering the artifact, the adventurers started their return trip to Gaelsburg...
Hazael, after being able to break the tower's connection to Corelyn and knowing that the other adventurer's have defeated her, feels that the bog will slowly be converted back into the bountiful forest it once was.
Fin chapter.
