so you'd get 1 extended rest per 72 hours? feel free. To support JP, here's a snippet of the rules from PHB1 No Strenuous Activity: You normally sleep during an extended rest, though you don’t have to. You can engage in light activity that doesn’t require much exertion. You need at least 6 hours of sleep every day to keep functioning at your best. If, at the end of an extended rest, you haven’t slept at least 6 hours in the last 24, you gain no benefit from that extended rest. There is a slight difference between an extended rest and sleeping. You do not need to sleep to gain the benefits of an extended rest. But, if you have not slept at least 6 hours in the past 24, you do not gain the benefits of that extended rest. This is where the Mul feature comes into play - it extends that 24 hr period to 72 hours.

Hey, which supplements are available in this game? so far, i've pulled from all the published books, I.E. PhB 1/2, Martial Powers 1/2 and, of course, the Dark Sun books. So far the build i'm kind of getting settled in on is a Gnome Rogue, but i know that in Athas G-nomes aren't really commonplace. If i can't play a Gnome, it's fine, i can play a Human instead. Since i'm doing my build as a Striker Rogue, who mainly has the "get in and get out" strategy of play, i figure the "fade" encounter power would be best suited. especially because it goes along with my sort of "i only gamble when i rig it" personality. another thing i'm curious about is can i forgo taking the magic item in favor of more gold and random crap? i mean, i would imagine my character as one who would sell what he finds in favor of the random knick knackeries and seemingly meaningless junk. i was thinking of going for more of a tinkerer motif, like an introspective opportunist. which would also highlight my style of combat, since most of the time i would be too involved in my traps and devices that i would overlook attacks until they are inevitable or in progress. i think that the practical and pragmatic tactician would be a big help to the party, and i took a lot of abilities to help direct the flow of combat so i can get the hell out of the way. well this question went into too much detail so...

Gnomes are not commonplace because they are in fact extinct. They are extinct because one of the sorcerer-kings before he became a king eradicated them all by hunting them down one by one. So, if you were to play a Gnome, you would need some heavy RP behind it. Other than that, you should be OK. Just be prepared for the circumstances you will run into if you choose to be a Gnome. Circumstances like...
"I thought we killed all the Gnomes..." "Are there more of your kind around these parts?" "A Gnome?!? Get'em!"
And be prepared for other random Gnome prejudices I would assume... something not unlike being a Drow in other settings.

persecution? isolation? prejudice? Rogues have all of these. it's like a complete little RP package. disguise kits, bluff checks, slinking about... it's just too perfect. it's just whether or not it's allowed. i don't know who is who in this forum yet, so i'm going to wait until Saturday to finalize my plot. yes... yes....

Gnomes are extinct unfortunately.
You'd have to roll a hafling. You can be a short hafling if you want.
You can forgo the magic item and instead have +360 gp instead. Just a note though, Athas is tough. The better to hit/damage or prevent damage from your enemies is going to be key.

Gnomes are extinct unfortunately. You'd have to roll a hafling. Drat. Well i can't be a halfling (i have a personal, unfounded hatred for non feyborn shorties... they are an abomination). i'll just build around a human then. what about the supplements? Martial Powers 2? yes, no? this is rather important because my build functions heavily on stealth, and that offers the only options conducive to that play style. since, as you said, i should focus on avoiding damage, and it would go along incredibly well with my idea of how i want to do just that.

What other non-feyborn shorties are there? Or any other small playable race for that matter?
