After treasure is divvied up he announces that he will be assuming Lordship of Barovia. The members of the party are told they may take if they wish a reasonable amount of shards (whatever they wish to carry on their persons. No renting mules and carts) but that the rest of the remnants of the shard storm would be collected and stored in the Castle Vault. They are the property of Barovia and will go far to give the region the economic foundation it will need to stand firm against outside governments. (No pleas for more will be heard. The creation of magical weapons for personal gain does not outweigh the future and safety of Barovia)
Castle Ravenloft is no more. Clerical magics will be hired to fully cleanse the keep of Strahd's taint and make way for a fresh start under a new name; Castle Barovia!
But he will not be sole ruler. A council will be set up to unite all the people and races of Barovia under one banner and of course the threat of mutually assured destruction. And not just from each other but from outside forces as well once news of Zarovich's death spreads. One member from each region will be granted a seat on the council. One from each of the orcs, one from the gypsies and one from the humans. Each group is responsible for determining how they will choose their representative. The council then makes decisions based on votes. In the case of a tie Graaktor is the tiebreaker.
The incentive for the orcs is that now that they have free pass to leave, it would be in their best interests to keep Barovia as sacred ground. They can expand and do what they wish outside of Barovia, but so far as they maintain the peace in Barovia they will always have a sanctuary to retreat to that will offer them protection if that protection is returned in kind. The devastated people of Barovia are hardly rich targets compared to what lies beyond the mountains, and none dare strike against the new Castle while Graaktor still lives. (that last part is mostly directed at the mages and especially his brother Kraaktor of the northern orcs. He lets Kraaktor know in private that if he attempts any form of subterfuge or takes any action that risks the saftey of Barovia, he will return, unite the other orc clans, the peoples of Barovia, the gypsies, and then personally exterminate any sign that the Mekrath Clan ever even existed in the mountains.)
While everything is being worked out, put on paper, signed, and put in place. Graaktor pledges to use the new nation's resources to begin searching for clues that might lead to discovering the fates of Sir Urik and Droz. He also pledges to use the resources of Barovia to help Les find out what happened to him. It is the least he could do in return for his aid in breaking down the barriers that allowed Graaktor to land the killing blow on Strahd forever eliminating his dark hold on Barovia.

In times that Graaktor must leave the land, Keth will maintain the castle as castellan in his absence.

Keth, humbly as ever, accepts the station of castellan in Graaktor's absence.

While all of this political intrigue goes on, Les finds himself realizing that he is NOT in a dream any longer. Thus, he seeks answers...most specifically, he wishes to see and investigate the tomb that his comrades have told him bears his family name.
He has many questions...and among them are the fate of his beloved Fleshii.

Upon asking Graaktor does not hesitate to show him to the tomb immediately. "I do not know if there is anything in the crypt in the form of clues as to what is happening to you friend, but if anything there may assist you in your quest we shall find it together!"

Alaren takes haven in Strahd's Castle's Library and set's up his own work-shop/research facility in it, in which he studies the magical properties of the crystals and perhaps creates some nifty items with them.

Alaren takes haven in Strahd's Castle's Library and set's up his own work-shop/research facility in it, in which he studies the magical properties of the crystals and perhaps creates some nifty items with them. You will have to ask for permission for that from the new owner of the Castle, Lord Graaktor of Barovia. Setting up a workshop in there wil also mean a lot of changes made to the room itself. Youw ould be better suited to a building in the village or one of the other rooms in the castle, one nearer the crypts below...

Graaktor now Lord of Barovia, promotes his cousin Keth to Castellan.(Govenor of the Castle and responsible for day to day running of Castle Barovia, even when Graaktor is present, the castle still needs a Govenor).
All lands and titles now note Graaktor as Lord of Barovia, head of the Council of Barovia, his crest and Heraldry replace all those of 'Von Zarovich'.
Count Strahd Von Zarovich, now passes into legend as the 1st Noble of Barovia, formerly Realm of Ravenloft.

Graaktor allows any research to be done on the crystals, but they are not to be altered or used as ingredients for any item creation. They are far more valuable to Barovia in raw form than any item you could possibly create, and being that the supply is finite Barovia will need every last bit until it can develop more long term sources of wealth and economy.
The people of Barovia may not yet be ready to trust outsiders setting up permanent residency in the castle especially once Graaktor is gone on his quest to help Les and track down Droz and Sir Urik. If you would like to set up shop there are unfortunately many new vacancies in the main town.
Though if you are really desperate for a large working space, there is this underground cavern you're more than welcome to. The finely crafted elven door is labeled "for leveling purposes only." Oh and don't mind the octopus. He just wants to play...
