(Under construction)
The greater civilization of Oorlog is a relatively young one. There are of course generations of various societies in the history of the world, but for the first time ever the world has been more or less united under a single body of government.
Following the defeat of the Red Hand of Doom, the cities and villages farther away from the larger cultural centers became restless. The Red Hand of Doom arose suddenly and had the potential to wipe out the entire nation yet when it was the smaller, less populated areas, the larger governments failed to come to their aid. Smaller barons and mayors began to unite across the countryside and an all out class-civil war broke out. The leaders of the rebellion promised a variety of social and economic freedoms, but most of all they promised that if ever a force like the Red Hand of Doom were to rise again no town, no village, no hamlet would ever be left to fend for themselves.
The initial assaults took the established governments by surprise and the rebels took an early and decisive advantage. They were able to attack from the inside out within months as their successes inspired the poor and downtrodden of the major cities to also rebel and turn against their employers and leaders. Within 4 years the majority of the civilized world had been turned on its ear by war. It was a bloody and vicious war with vast numbers of casualties on either side. With chaos and destruction the only constant theme, it was the perfect time for a new world order to develop.
The Covenant was a small circle of mages that had long avoided interaction with society preferring not to get involved with lower beings. That philosophy changed the day they noticed that four years of true world war was beginning to upset the elemental lines of focus that keep the world in balance. Left unchecked it would only be a matter of time before abominations once again walked the earth, disturbed from eons of rest; creatures that once put fear into the hearts of the gods. The Covenant felt they had no other alternative but to end the war their way.
They allied themselves with the last and most powerful rulers of the old kingdoms. Their resources combined with that of the covenant quickly began to turn the tide against the rebel forces. Their magics were truly great and terrifying, leveling battlefields and eliminating entire armies within minutes. They eventually succeeded in gaining back the confidence of many rebel factions enticed by the Covenant’s promise of more freedoms, protection, and war weariness. The Covenant hadn’t fostered generations of resentment with the people, so they were more easily trusted, but they also exhibited an amount of power and force like no mortal had ever seen before.
