It may be a mindless golem of sorts, which we can use to our advantage. I suggest we focus on obtaining the key first, because we'll need it to get through the door that Swamp Thing guards, anyway. If possible, we might collapse a section of wall or something luring the creature away from the door. Send it over that 60' cliff somehow (e.g., water snake teleport into river) and we should be all clear to enter the door ourselves. I don't know how we're RPing Gwen and MJ, exactly. I have been fond of the idea of MJ reverting to a nonthreatening dog-form that sits around while we take care of business. For Gwen I've suggested that she's fallen back into the coma as a random side effect of the event with Marus in the forge. I do like a little "reason" and explaination when I play make-believe. Anyway, if we use that reasoning, someone would have to carry her through the door. Regarding the key: I don't think it will be as easy as popping the key into the keyhole. Remember the poem: Let art and image point the way. Abandon all you think you know, For common sense leads fools astray. The key is simply this: Obey. At the very least, two lines of each verse/stanza refer to the same thing. Taking the versa as a whole, seeing as the key is mentioned in the last line, there is more to this than just acquiring the key. Yes, we should acquire the key, but the next step after that should be looking at the tapestry again, it will "point the way". Also, there is the unexplored portion of the complex near the teleportation circle. Having looked over the poem once again, this verse gave me a new thought: You've fought your way, you've risked Demise, To view the ivy heart within. Now as the soul within you dies, This knowledge is your only prize: You'd never have come, were you truly wise. "To view the ivy heart within" sounds like a reference to the gem that had MJ dazed. David described that it looked like it was pulling MJ's spirit out of him. I'm guessing that it steals souls so, yeah, don't get struck by it. Finally, I wonder if we could pluck the "heart" out and if that would have any negative effects on the Thing.

Okay, there's been a new development. My wife has tickets to the ballet and really would like to go. I see a couple of options:
- We play until 4 or 430, at which time I would need to leave. We could take on the Ivy Thing or forego it altogether and look into getting the key and exploring elsewhere in the complex. - We call it fate and wave the game off until February 13th.

Hmm.
Well, David, it's up to you, but I have a suggestion I'd like to put forth.
Since we won't have enough people for a full Eberron sesh., but Micah can make it for 2-3 hours, maybe we can run just a short one off adventure. I think it would be fun - maybe just 2 encounters (maybe 3 if they are short), so minimal prep is required. Keep it low level so it doesn't get out of hand.
Eh - just an idea. It doesn't look like we'd get much done in Eberron, so we might as well goof off doing something else.

*sigh*
So now this whole thing has turned into a dinner and ballet, leaving me no substantial time to play.
Sorry guys.

Ah, okay. Well. Then I guess I could spend the time with my wife - that is, my dissertation. She doesn't hold me, or caress me, or even talk to me, but she never says 'no'.
Enjoy your time with a human being, Micah. Dinner and a show. And he complains.
PS just teasing

The game on Feb 13th will be cancelled due to Valentine's day, after all.
I don't want to put Eberron completely on hold for yet another month, seeing as I am here and mostly available.
Any chance we can have a make-up session, maybe on a Saturday when Dark Sun isn't being played?

Certainly a prospect worth exploring.
This Saturday?

I'd be available, but I think it's Dark Sun this Saturday, so Zach's probably not. Next Saturday might be better.

Looking at the Dark Sun threads, it seems the game might be up in the air. In fact, Zach was going to be able to make it, provided he had a ride. Perhaps this is providence from the Raven Queen. Of course, I still would need to run it by my wife, regardless of the Saturday.

So next Saturday, Feb 5, would be the next prospective date. I'll check my calendar.
Edit: *sigh* it's the anniversary of the Mexican Constitution so it's not looking hopeful for me.

While we're on the topic of absentee days I decided to look at the holiday schedule. Assuming the schedule stays the same, the Eberron campaign falls on the following:
April 24: Easter; I'm 99.999% sure I won't be playing that day. May 8: Mother's Day; depends on family plans. I've been trying to migrate these family gatherings to Saturdays so as to avoid the crowds and freeway traffic. June 19: Father's Day; same as Mother's Day, though my wife has said "go play" for the past two years.
