Darkfire opened his eyes and found himself standing on an open plain. Wind whistled through the long grass covering the rolling hillsides. Clouds lazily floated overhead going about their timeless business. There didn't seem to be another creature within miles.
"What is this place? Where am I," thought Darkfire. At that, he decided to walk around and take stock of his surroundings. "Maybe I can find some landmark in the distance to figure out where I am."
No sooner had Darkfire taken a step forward did the ground begin to rumble and quake. An unusual pulsating feeling started to emanate from the earth as well. It felt almost as if the earth itself now had a heartbeat and was stirring with life. Suddenly, an enormous mound of stone and earth began to rise and take shape in front of him. Recognizable arms and legs took form, even a face. With a booming voice in its savage, primordial tongue, the titan bellowed, "Why did you betray me?"
Surprised at this sudden turn of events, Darkfire stumbled back and tried to regain his wits.
"Answer me Lightrider! You as well Emberguard! Do I not at least deserve an answer?" screamed the titan. Obvious fury began to boil in its eyes. The entire landscape began to shake with its growing anger.
With that emphatic challenge, Darkfire's scars began to tingle then burn with a searing heat. He roiled in pain screaming as the scars covering his body started to glow white hot. The titan stood stoically waiting for his reply as Darkfire's skin erupted into flames. His entire body was bathed in fire as lightning began to crackle and race around him. Darkfire's horrible screams abruptly stopped as he calmly stood up. His eyes looked like solid black gems devoid of color and light.
"Alas Earthshaker, we are bound to this puny human. Somehow we are held captive by his soul," spoke a blend of two disembodied voices. "We abhor the things he has done to our kin and yet can do nothing to punish him."
"Bide your time and strength then brothers and act when the moment is right," bellowed Earthshaker. "I will not hold your trespass of me against you. All I ask is that you avenge me and exact my wrath." The titan then let out a mighty howl causing the entire area to quake rending open the ground in several places.
"Don't worry, the human will soon know our fury." At that, the flames engulfing Darkfire's body flared and surged in a growing entropic ball. With an ear-shattering explosion, lightning and fire flew away in every direction caste away from the pile of ashes that was once Darkfire only seconds ago.
Darkfire awoke with a start in a cold and clammy sweat. He sat up in his bed in Argent and looked around checking his surroundings. "Was it all just a nightmare? That heat, it seemed so real," he thought to himself. "Why can I only remember that intense heat? It's as if I was thrown into a forge." Darkfire looked down at his bare arms and rubbed the scars that ran the length of his arm and shuttered as a chill ran down his spine. "For some reason, I feel like I'm being watched," he pondered.
