New Players
PM me for the player's guide for my campaign. You may choose to use it as you see fit. If you would rather your character be from a far away land unrelated to this stuff, be my guest, but don't rewrite anything in the guide. The world your characters live in isn't fleshed out so that I can add to it as we go along to match the interests of all involved. If you come up with a really cool place to hail from we may very well venture there. We'll likely leave it in ashes, but a visit nonetheless.
Adventurers will be following rumors of an Orc Invasion of the city of Overlook in the Elsir Vale. You will be starting off the city of Brindol which is a smaller town on the way to Overlook. Figure out how/why you will be in the Tavern of Brindol where our first session will begin. Or I'll do it for you. Your preference.

Character creation guidelines:
Core PHB pantheon.
All books paper or pdf are acceptable for use provided you use the updated errata versions. This is especially true for Dragon magazine stuff. This will be mostly based on the honor system, so don't be a dick. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then don't worry about it; you're probably doing just fine.
No Dark Sun themes. (Backgrounds are OK.)
Starting level is currently 3.
Use the point buy system.
Choose equipment based on the guidelines provided in the DMG pg. 143.
*IMPORTANT ALIGNMENT UPDATE*
No evil PCs. Your character must agree that dark god cults and orc invasions ALWAYS require someone to stop them. In fact as of 3/23/2014 I'm not using alignment in my campaigns any longer. Instead, along with your character background submission you must answer the following:
4 beliefs that your character has
3 basic morals or codes that he/she lives by
2 situations in which he/she feels they could forsake those morals
1 ultimate goal that the character has
This is not a retroactive change, so your currently active characters do not need to go back and do this. (Though please do so if you'd like! The more input I get the better able I am to tie your characters into the campaign over time.) This is a requirement for new characters in order to get the character background XP bonus and to have the option of choosing a character background bonus.
Furthermore, in regards to character backgrounds; everybody gave me great fuel for future stories. No really, I was impressed! So I'm challenging you to go a bit deeper with future characters. In order to earn the XP bonus for backgrounds (which increases with the current campaign's level so as to not be irrelevant) please address at least 10 of the following questions in your writeup. More is better, but not required or necessary. DON'T just go down the list and type an answer. Weave your answers into your background narrative.
1) How old is your character?
2) Are your parents still alive?
3) If one or both of your parents are dead when and how did they die?
4) Who raised you after your parents died?
5) Do you have any siblings?
6) Have any of them died?
7) If any siblings have died how did they die?
8) What do your siblings do?
9) Is your character married?
10) Does your character have children?
11) What social class is your character from?
12) How has their upbringing affected their world view?
13) How did your character get started in their chosen class?
14) Does your character have any heroes or inspirational figures?
15) Does your character have any significant personal items?
16) Is your character religious?
17) Is your character guided by a prophecy?
18) What is your character’s view on magic?
19) Has your character ever served in the military?
20) Has your character ever been arrested? What for?
21) How did your character meet his current adventuring companions?
22) Has your character ever crossed anyone?
23) Does your character have any enemies?
24) What are your character’s goals in life?
25) How important is the accumulation of wealth?
26) If your character died tomorrow what would they be remembered for?
27) Where did your character learn or train their skills?
