Over time many empires reigned over the various lands and seas. The tieflings and dragonborn each once controlled vast regions. But all empires eventually succumb to changing times. And most recently the human empire of Nerath has fallen. But according to most of the mortal races, that would have been generations ago. Now the land, sea, and sky themselves have darkened. All creatures fight for survival. The noble races band together and live within the confines of few remaining settlements of the broken empire. Travel and intercity trade is limited. Only those who are brave enough, or powerful enough, trek across the dangerous roads. The wild lands have been overrun by monsters. Many seek shelter in Haven. Attachments:

It wasn't always called Haven. Before the fall of Nerath it was known as Thenall and consisted of several rich villas, a small market place and surrounding farmland. But as the empire lumbered on in its slow decline, more people began to huddle together and the small town grew.
Frightened and desperate, bankrupt from losing their farms and homes in the wilderness, they poured into Thenall. They were not welcomed. Tensions rose and perhaps the city would have erupted into riots if not for the efforts of one man. It is said he had a voice like an iron bell. He was persuasive, but commanding. He unified the people of Thenall and the refugees. He built up the city guard, who became known as the Iron Talon. He helped organize the carpenters and masons to make sure all had decent homes. Slowly, over the course of decades, the town began to prosper, becoming a beacon of hope in the face of the encroaching darkness that waited in the wilds.
Rickon Greybold passed away decades ago, and so did his son Karll, but his grandson Rickon of the Mound still leads the town. It was said he was birthed of the earth herself and walked out of a solid stone cliff to become man and assume his father's place. That and other strange tales are common in local taverns.
