Thought Bubble 1:
So, I finally arrive in Fallcrest after a long boat ride and many days travel on my “Blushing Outlaw”. I make my way to the Academy with the help of a guard. Following the signs in the Academy, I locate the Atrium per my instructions from the summons. As I enter, I see a guy in a gold mask sitting at a desk. Since he looked important, I approached him. At first he brushed me aside, thinking me to be a servant boy. I just met this guy and he’s already rubbing me the wrong way, no one should be so judgmental on someone’s appearance. Just everyone wait; soon will come the day when all know my name. So I show him my summons from this so-called Oracle, and that got his attention. He immediately directed me towards her. She was an Eladrin female in the middle of the room facing a canvas. She seemed to be painting something, even though she appeared to be blind. When I came near her, she referred to me as a Hero of Old and began to tell me the reason I was summoned.
Now, I didn’t get the whole picture of this “Heroes of Old” stuff, but it seems that some important dragons of the world are in danger and that demons are invade the plane. This sounded like a big opportunity for me to prove my skills and myself. There was already another Hero of Old that had arrived before me. His name was Bastion and he was a tiny little gnome fighter. I can’t knock him for trying to be rough and tough, but I guess I’ll see how he fares in a fight.
Right after the Oracle had finished her story, a scout came bursting into the room shouting about a demon assault. Apparently the city of Rafters was under siege. The man in the gold mask, who called himself Orontor, wanted to dispatch Bastion and me immediately, despite the Oracles warnings of waiting for the remaining Heroes of Old. I was eager to go, but Bastion seemed quite cautious of the Oracle’s warning. But, it wasn’t just the two of us that going to go. We got this really cool ally. We would summon him out of this gem. Now he wasn’t real per se, it was like a mannequin of magical armor… without the mannequin, and it could fight. It’s kinda hard to explain, but it was really cool. Also, a bard named Donavan in some rather heavy armor accompanied us.
But anyways, the party was set and we were to be teleported to Rafters. Now, I’ve never been teleported before… but I was dying to try it. We stepped on this blue portal thing and it seemed like we were ripped apart and flung across the world. It didn’t hurt though, and magically we arrived in Rafters.
However, we arrived in the middle of a fight. Civilians were attempting to use the teleportation device to escape and as soon as we beamed in the doors to the room blasted open. Demons were invading, just as the scout had said. Although I have a demonic lineage, I’ve actually never seen a bona fide demon before. Even though they were quite scary looking, I wasn’t very frightened. I could only guess it was because we kinda share a common heritage. But regardless of origin, a bolt is a bolt and a target is a target. All I have to do is aim and shoot until one of us stops breathing.
We proved to be quite a successful ragtag team. Even though there were some close calls, we won the fight. As we walked out the doors of the teleportation room, we saw fires spread about the city, heavy smoke in the sky, and the streets littered with dead bodies. As we rested from our previous battle, a mighty tall Goliath approached us. He turned out to be another Hero of Old sent by the Oracle. I was happy for another member, as Donavan decided to stay behind and repair the teleportation device that was apparently damaged in our fight.
Rising to the call of duty of our summons from the Oracle, we made our way into the city to drive out the demon. Our exploits so far allowed us to save two sectors of the city. First was an area that looked like a town center, but it was rather small. We managed to save an Alchemical shop in the process of slaying the demons here. Next was a sector that appeared to be a small part of the Rafter’s market district. In this part, we managed to save a Ritual shop from burning to the ground.
With much demonic purification left and lots of burning city, we continued to do what we could has we made our way to the central keep…
