Rules - ---------- - Participants will receive EXP for this online exchange. - Allow at least 2 other players to react and act before acting again. - If at least 3 players do not act, this scene will happen on the next Dark Sun date. - Roll honestly or let me know if you want to see something. Add the words "RESPOND PRIVATE" if you want me to tell you your check result in a PM.
Scene - ---------- The Crystal Golem collapses into the floor after the mighty battle. Suddenly the shard that was acting as the eye floats into the air and flips itself back onto the altar. The blue lines in the floor pulse to life again and as if struck by glue, the heroes feet are stuck to the floor.
The world starts to spin violently and their surroundings become a mass of colors that fade into black. An instant later the earth slams into a still and they feel motion return back into their legs. The shard of crystal hums slightly and gives off a very dim glow. The rest of the room is darkness.
Nantiki, Dawn, and Rhogar stare blankly at the shard before running at it, hands outstretched to snatch it up. Nantiki grabs the shard first as Dawn and Rhogar both almost collide into the altar.
Character Positions - ---------- Nantiki - Holding the shard, center of the room. Dawn/Rhogar - center of the room. Sharo - Near the edge of the circle. The shard is flooding Sharo with images, compulsing him to join the shards together. Pavu - Near the edge of the circle. "Eric" - Near the edge of the circle, about 1/4th circumference away from Pavu, having run for the shard as well.

Nantiki immediately places the shard in his coin bag to conceal its glow. He then puts his back against the altar. Attempting to get a glimpse at his surroundings, he releases a Fire Hawk into the air towards the ceiling, causing a brief streak of light - like a signal flare on a dark night. As the fire soars through the air, he makes a quick check of his surroundings (Perception 21).

Nantiki - The fire hawk does not promote much light, but you do get a glimpse that your group is not alone, there is a halfling that seems to be rushing up to the altar. You can't tell anything about the creature except it's size and that it is running towards you.

If she had been asked why she rushed to podium at the center of the circle, Dawn's only answer would be to shrug. She did not know why moved towards the glowing shard with such purpose. All she knew was that she wanted answers. Answers to questions such as who these people were. For what reason was this shard so important as to risk their lives. And how they could have so easily let a complete stranger into their midst with naught but a question or two.
Were they daft?
By snatching up the shard, Dawn hoped to wring the answers to these questions from them. The half-elf, the thri-keen, the dray... And the half-giant. He in particular set her senses on edge. Just looking at the creature threatened to summon up memories Dawn had labored to bury during her months in the Forest Ridge.
She'd reacted swiftly, her feet pounding against the stone floor as she rushed to the center, but not swiftly enough, it would seem as the thri-keen arrived first and stole the shard away. In her frustration, the shifter let slip an old dwarven oath she'd heard many a time during her youth; an oath that was cut short as she slammed into the podium. She'd been too intent on the piece of crystal to reign herself in in time to avoid the collision.
Her chance at answers lost for the moment, Dawn resigns herself to catching her breath. Nearby, Nantiki fires a flaming hawk into the air, providing a brief moment of light.
"Location?" She queries. Because this most certainly wasn't the crystal forest anymore.

Pavu stood perfectly still in the darkness. Every one of his senses was screaming that he needed to keep moving, to find the next threat and strike it down. However, the senses were quickly losing their edge, as the battle-lust ceased to cloud Pavu's mind. Slowly, Pavu brought down his maul from the attack-ready position out in front of him, lowering it to his side, but not putting it away.
Pavu let forth a deep sigh, rumbling like the rocks tumbling down the dunes. Pavu pondered the situation, looking back on the last day: Obviously, this is not what I have been searching for. That beasts nature did not mirror my own. These people push towards another goal, but the stars may light both their road and mine.
Spying the dim outlines of his travel companions in front of him, Pavu moves forward to see what it is these people have journeyed to find.

As the world starts to spin violently a blend of images blend into my mind as I try to focus on what is happening. I falter onto one knee as the surge of images overwhelms me for a brief second as the light seems to dwindle. The light of the crystal draws my attention as the shard upon my head screams within my mind to be joined.
If the coin purse conceals the glow perfectly: I feel compelled to head toward the center alter but notice Nantiki's fire hawk and fear our battle is far from over.
if the glow penetrates the coin purse: I head toward the glow in a rush, and focus only upon the glow as if the light drugged my mind and set me forth to bask within its light as the shards call to one another. The illuminating hawk soars into the air yet seemed to dwindle in the darkness falling upon us. yet I barely notice it as reality merges with the images compelling me toward the joining of shards.
I make way toward the center alter, compelled, yet also in the back of my mind to assure myself that the travelers and friends with me are all safe from harms way.

Scene Update:
Nantiki - Has stowed the shard. The streak of light from the firehawk fades quickly but provide a glimpse of the halfling, and the firehawk only produces enough light for itself to be seen above.
Dawn - having questioned their location, she stands wary of the situation, wanting to understand why the group hastily bounded for the shard, and why Nantiki is so cautiously guarding it. A glance of the area during the quick flash of light provided a glimpse of the figure that has approached during her run to the center.
Pavu - Moved forward to join up with Nantiki, weapon no longer at the ready.
Sharo - Moving slowly toward the center.
Shard(1) - "Join us together. That way we can be one. One for Ul'Athra! Join us together. That way we can be one. One for Ul'Athra! Join us together..."
Shard(2) - The glow fades quickly from the stone itself after Nantiki picks it up. Strangely no voice resounds within Nantiki's head as it is touched, however a slight compulsion to meet with Sharo and join the shards is felt as it is placed into the pouch.
Rhogar/"Eric" - Still standing in their respective positions.
The room is now in darkness. Dry cool and dusty air filter over the scene. Their is no real sound other than the shuffling of feet and Dawn's question.

Rhogar growls in frustration as he's forced to watch Nantiki pocket the second crown shard. He knows his master will not be pleased at yet another missed opportunity at acquiring a fragment. "Looks like bringing about a new Athas will be difficult," thought Rhogar.
Perception check of 16 during Nantiki's firehawk. Passive of 12 if that applies instead. Take whichever one appropriate to see if I take notice to the small creature.
If Rhogar sees the creature: After seeing an unaccounted creature in close proximity to the party thanks to Nantiki's firehawk, Rhogar places the podium between himself and the creature. Arcana check of 32 to determine if this is yet another form of crystal creature and to detect defiling magic.
If possible, Rhogar also readies a Slash of Blight to blast at the creature should it prove at all hostile. He knows that it's better to shoot and ask questions later rather than run the risk of losing one's life because of inaction.
If Rhogar can only take one standard action I'll take the readied Slash of Blight instead of the move action to move behind the podium.
If Rhogar doesn't see the creature: In the dying light, Rhogar stows his rapier with a sigh of exhaustion and waits for the rest of the party to regroup at the altar.

Rhogar does notice the creature (no applicable stealth because of no applicable cover). It is not a magic creature, though there appears to be a magic item on it. Slash of Blight readied.

In my initial haste to get to the glowing shard, I let go of my cautious instinct to grab at the only bargaining chip in the room. Seeing the quickness of the reactions and the recovery time of the figures that appeared, I regretted that decision immediately.
What manner of beasts, be it man or otherwise, could create such a devastating force in such a small area and not be even stunned? Surely not the type that I would hope to trouble.
The moments I have in thought are abruptly interrupted as a flaming conjuration shoots skyward. Instincts take over, as i duck behind rubble and attempt to hide myself. (Stealth check: 14 on the die (+6 dex, +5 trained), 25 adjusted)
I try my best to listen in on the conversations or interactions the best i can. (Perception check: 18 on the die (+4 wis, +5 trained), 27 adjusted).

The halfing ducks behind cover quickly, the closest cover being about 15 feet away. He knows he might probably have been noticed, but since Dawn responds with "Location?" he thinks he may be ok.

As the shard's thoughts echo in my mind, hearing ,"Join us together. That way we can be one. One for Ul'Athra! Join us together. That way we can be one. One for Ul'Athra! Join us together..." I rush toward Nantiki, picking up the pace as I regain my senses.
The only thought that ran through my head was to get Nantiki to touch the shard and understand its yearning to be joined as a whole once again.
The shard's weight around my head feels different, but i shrug it off, thinking it may just be the pull to be joined as a whole once again.
As the light fades I steady my legs and wait listening as I leave my walking to instinct as i follow the pull of the shard.
Ready and aware we may not be out of danger yet.
Current thoughts running through my mind: My mind is exhausted from the battle and feel I may be to weak to perform my healing abilities without resting once again.
Slowly walking yet feeling weary from the battle and thinking back about memories of my childhood and realizing why the lush green forests were not as surprising as he saw his companions to be by them.
Traveling so long, on a quest long forgotten, yet still driven...
