It had been a fortnight since the heroes were teleported to Hammerfall. Ssorun himself left to Hammerfall and the seeker's guild of Galesburg was working, archiving his notes, transcribing them in books and messaging them with arcane means to repositories throughout the world.
It was a cold night, and a kenku stood outside the seeker's guild office. He locked the door with a click and slid his key out from its wooden grasp. With a murmur of words a light blue wave of energy flowed out from where the key had just been and flowed over the building. The kenku shivered to himself and turned to walk down the street towards the Full Body Winery. Suddenly a noise clicked against the empty cobblestone street.
Wait... the kenku thought. Why is the street empty...? The kenku froze and began to check his surroundings. CLANK CLANK A dark form began to march up the street towards him. The kenku called out to the menacing form. CLANK CLANK
"Hello? Who are you? What do you want?" the kenku sputtered. CLANK CLANK The figure didn't even seem to care and kept marching towards him. The bird wanted to run, he needed to run. Every instinct in him screamed "FLY, YOU FOOL!" He turned to flee, but tripped over himself, his right leg refusing to move. It felt, cold? He looked down at it and saw a dark silver spread over his flesh. CLANK CLANK
The kenku looked back up towards the figure and then he noticed that streams of black hung about him, floating from him, towards the streets, towards the streets, as if they were masses of bugs. But he didn't hear the buzz of their wings... CLANK CLANK
The figure stood over the kenku as the spreading metal began to climb up his neck.
"Tell me little one. What did you do to the building?"
"I--" The kenku tried to sputter up words, but his entire body was cold, he could taste metal on his tongue, he could feel the silver in his mouth.
"Ahh. It is no matter. We will enter the building eventually. From what I know, you have the maps I seek, the location of the places in my head... I would have you tell me them... but I lack my father's helmet... One day, perhaps, one day. Now sleep. I will come back for you, some day..."
---
And that is how the town of Galesburg was found, as if a sudden explosion of the iron plague transformed all of them... But not just transformed, turned each of them into metal statues... They were alive though, none of them responsive. The strongest adventurers around, however, were missing.
Within the next two weeks, signs of the plague seemed to spread into the Corelyn Forest and the Fal'Kith plains... A few people, escaped the recent attacks, claiming of an army of metal men traveling from village to village, leaving no one alive. The nations began to fortify their armies once more.
---
With the deaths of the warforged monk and the cleric of Pelor, the party felt defeated. Learning that the lord was probably attempting to gather the pieces of the ancient warforged. Had the lord had more power, perhaps he would have simply reawakened all of the slumbering warforged, but that had not happened. Perhaps being able to gather these pieces first would stop him...
The hafling bladesinger sighed. What could such a small party do? He needed to defend his homelands. He would join an army to fight these metal men. That would be better thought out...
A small girl working at the seeker's camp that the dark lady and the primal warrior rests at, hums a sing song tune to herself, studying them. They are the beginning, they are the end, they will breathe life or they will breathe death to the metal men! And there I stand, on the edge with them, watching the world shatter or watching the world mend!
A hungry giant of a man waits for his next meal, begging to taste in the challenges before him, and the foes that will feed his strength....
A shadowed figure, unseen by the treasures of fate stands vigilant against the tide of darkness that is beginning to rise.
