I just joined a game playing 13th Age. It is similar to D&D, but there are some big differences. As far as I can tell it is much more focused on group storytelling. There are mechanics that demand that players contribute to the story. Like you have to describe how and what you do, and you are encouraged to make stuff up about the world even. Players are also connected to patrons/idols either positively or negatively. Then as the adventure progresses, depending on your relationship different plot elements will evolve. So far it seems like a fun game. That's fascinating, I have had a tendency to go over the top on adding my own lore to everyone's campaigns, Joseph's from several years ago being the worst when I created my city/town and NPCs that were really "in the mix". Edit: just glancing over 13th Age...it makes an awesome first impression. I can't wait to read the whole ruleset.

I vaguely remember that. Plus my policy as DM is the more the players make up, the less I have to. The more the players create the less work on me and plus it gives you more to target besides just player HP.

Good article, however the author's statement "a combatant can only make one opportunity attack for each turn they take" isn't accurate as a turn represents each combatant's place in the round and opportunity attacks use up a combatant's reaction of which they only get one a round. Otherwise, a nice summary.

Well... each person can only take 1 turn a round... so... the valid point got across to me.
