His mind befuddled his life-force almost drained from him, all that he could recall of this was that he was here for a reason, a very important reason.. if only he could remember what that reason was.

Droz struggled to regain his bearings amid the stench. He was surprised that his hands were longer and more slender than he expected...elven when he expected them to be dwarven. Why and how could this be? He had vague rememberance of two others with him as recognition flashed also in their eyes.
He felt weak. And why was it so hard to think?
He tried to take all this in and noticed there were a total of four among the living. Four? But there were so many bodies. Why was there not a scrap of clothing on a single one? Why was everyone's hair so long?
He would cast a spell...he knew he was a spell-caster. Nothing happened. Was he a spell-caster? At this point he was certain of nothing. Nothing except that he wanted out of this chamber of horrors.
As the men slowly regained their wits, it was decided to make a ladder of bones, hair, and skin to escape this necrotic pit. With little to no strength, it was a struggle, but finally they made their way out.
And the plot sickened.....
(tomorrow will be a 'writing day' and I hope to finish this and the Dune stuff....)

If our adventurers thought awakening in the pit and the escape were bad, they still had surprises in store...
Upon their escape they found themselves in a tremendous, seemingly endless, cavern. Stretching off in all directions were fluid filled canisters with humanoid being contained within. And the rows of canisters were also stacked above them, reaching the great heights of this over-sized living tomb. Above each of these was suspended a small bowl with a pulsating blue light that seemed alive. And it seemed to be feeding in some strange way off of the beings entrapped beneath them.
Droz struggled with this new situation. His partners wanted to run down the row they were in, but Droz counseled that they should travel against the rows as if it were a cornfield. So hard was it to maintain himself that Droz was in a near-panic by the time they reached a wall to the great cavern.
But, it was at this wall that they did find a door. An exit to this nightmare. A chance to gather their thoughts and figure out what nightmare had become them. They were starved, cold, naked, and desperate. They greatly needed this safe haven from the enormously grave situation that had presented itself to them.
They opened the door. Before them stood a non-living being of mechanical nature. It demanded of them to hold still, as they were unauthorized. Droz seemed to remember having owned or befriended such a being, and so he said weakly..."hold...I..am...Droz..."
The aged Construct merely stated that they were unauthorized, and did attempt to attack the emaciated and demoralized party.
(I'll finish tomorrow...or the next day, heh...)

The party was confused and desperate, but had not lost their bravery. The half-Orc had thought to carry along a few bones to use as weapons. He used them on the Forge, inflicitng some damage on the unkept Mek. As the rest of the party scouted for weapons thay found a tool box...inside the doorway blocked by the attacking Mek. Finnegan made a tumble past the Forge in an attempt to get the weapons the party so desperately needed. He was successful, but still the tools were a good distance away, and the Forge was not stopping. Despite his size and condition, Droz found the strength of desperation overwhelm him and made a physical tackle against the Forge. He not only knocked the Mek to the ground, but managed to dislodge it's head-piece, thus rendering it inoperable. Inside he found gems, which he sccoped onto the inoperable beings helmet for later use. The party entered the chamber and closed the door. They needed rest badly and also a chance to consider this strange situation they now found themsleves in. The room was sparse, yet had some mechanical devices to which they could only guess at the purpose of. There was a control panel, they guessed, that was covered with strange gems and a language none could decipher. They armed themselves from the tool box. Droz chose a crowbar, which he foolishly lost while trying to dismantle the control panel from the wall. They rested, and then set about exploring the devilish setting they now found themsleves in. They found a chamber that appeared to have electrical qualities...a re-charge station for the Forges, they surmised. Further exploration led them to a room of 3 chests full of items, most of which were rotted and useless. Still they at least managed to salvage a few weapons and some clothing. Droz acquired some rags and a staff at this point, which helped him regain some small amount of dignity. (yeah, yeah, I'll finish when I finish... )

The party the encountered another Forge and one of the hated Drow. The de-powered Droz would not give up. As the rest of the party struggled against the two, Droz attempted to use his gem filled cloak as a sling weapon. He was unsuccessful. Unshaken, he then hurled his staff at the Drow...a stunning blow to the forehead resulted, allowing the others the opportunity to finish off the reviled creature.
They would not have long to celebrate, however. The very Earth itself shook, and it became apparent to all that an immediate egress from these caverns was in order. The group found their way back to the circular chamber they had encountered before and went through a door. Inside they found a conveyor...with jars...containing bodies.
Droz immediately began freeing the captives before they could be subjected to the same evils he and the others had been. They managed to free some 20 people within the chamber...two of whom decided to join them in their deeds.
It was decided that they would follow the conveyor...more jars, more people to be freed. Droz directed those already freed to save the others, and they did so.
The party continued ahead and found themselves in the main jar chamber where they had been captive. There was a masked man engaging two Forges and three Drow in combat...by himself!!! Our heroes quickly joined the battle, seeking to aid the masked man and gain a measure of revenge on their former captors.
Droz had managed to consume the Magic Missile spell into his being from the parchment it was written upon. The parchment literally was a part of him now as he consumed the spell. Out of sheer desperation he had managed to obtain and then use this spell. It worked!!!!
Soon into battle, however, Droz was felled by two additional Drow that joined the conflict. Back in the conveyor room he had freed a Half-Orc that joined him against the two new adversaries...sacrificing his own life in the process.
(to be continued...or not...is anyone follwing this, or am I just jerking off here? )

Droz, his mind resting at rest now, sat in the village Inn somewhat perplexed. While most people were thawing out from their trek through the winter frost, Droz merely sat huddled swathed in a warm blanket cupping a hot drink and gazing in deep thought into the burning fiery hearth before him.
Keth and Graaktor must have some kind of inner strength, perhaps it was their orcish blood, perhaps they were just plain lucky, but it took a little while until Droz finally came to the realization that something must have affected his mind and cognisance, before he succumbed to the Dream. How his vastly superior intellect was diminished would remain a mystery, though, there were at least a few Enchantments he knew of, or had known of, that could have achieved such a dumbing down effect. Though he pondered, considering the nature of the Inspired and their mental manifestations, he thought it more likely it was some effect of such a Psychic power that must have dulled his senses to idiocy for him to have dreamed up himself a Dwarf of such crass nomenclature and disgusting ritualistic trappings.. oh the self loathing, oh the degradation, oh the embarrassment of it all. "At least it was not a Drow... and at least I brought something back with me.. a secret yes..." He consoled himself, a chagrined look stretching forcefully across his dried and frost-exposed face.

Droz the schemer, memories intact, finally showed something of what he brought back from 'The Dreaming'....Shadow Magick. He summoned his familiar from the beyond realms...Buhr-Nee. It was only Buhr-Nee that Droz would trust to ensure his continued existence should things go wrong...and they did.
But now, returned to some of his former power, Droz at least has a chance to complete his mission. This was a good beginning. An evil Dragon was brought low at the cost of only one member of the party. A good start, indeed. It has been centuries since he has felt so...alive.
Still, we have much work to do. The evil of Khyber and the Dream Suckers, as I like to call them, must end. We must purify this world to the best of our ability...and make contact with the Enclave!!!
