**Spoilers** to anybody reading this and who doesn't want to risk learning any details of the Lost Mine of Phandelver Adventure.

8/14/14 game
Our heroes were hired by the dwarf adventurer Gundren Rockseeker to take a wagonload of supplies from the port city of Neverwinter to the frontier town of Phandalin. A few days into the journey, the heroes discovered that the road was blocked by the bodies of two dead horses and **ambush goblin attack.** The four goblins were dispatched handily, and no prisoners were taken. The mysterious Ronan positively identified an empty mapcase as belonging to the group's benefactor, Gundren, among the remaining articles near the horses. The heroes discovered the goblin's trail, and the hazards that lay upon it were fortuitously avoided by the half-orc half-monk Moon Beam. The trail led to the goblins' cave, which was guarded by two lazy and inattentive goblins, who were killed nearly as soon as they were discovered. The party sallied forth into the dark (and rather smelly) cave, narrowly avoiding being mauled by a couple of wolves who were chained to a stalagmite. As they worked their way up the main vein of the cave, Ronan stumbled across a goblin by climbing up into a bridge with him, and soon thereafter he was turned to ash by Moradin's sacred flame. The token human, Jorel, pushed the party deeper into the cave, despite being the only one without the ability to see in the dark.
8/27/14 game
As the heroes continued through the main channel of the cave, a goblin who was on patrol sighted our heroes and alerted his comrades further in the cave to "flood it!" This was reported to the group by the elf Sagan, who suddenly remembered that she could speak Goblin. Though the goblin fell early, the goblins further in the cave were indeed alerted, and had nearly completed their work of breaking the dam to flood the tunnel when the rogue stopped the goblin's hammering cold. His comrade too soon fell, but not before alerting the enemies in the next room.
The heroes bottle-necked the entrance to the next room, with Sagan taking the front line (and eventually falling unconscious), defeating the two goblins and the wolf (Fluffy/Ripper) there. Upon the death of his beloved wolf, Fluffy, Klarg, the bugbear leader of the goblins, promised to kill the heroes and then retreated down a natural chimney into the room where the wolves were being kept (and the garbage dumped). Moon Beam proceeded down the chimney, with Ronan soon following, as Jorel tended to the unconscious Sagan, soon finding two potions of healing (and some other goodies) among the loot in Klarg's chamber, one of which he administered to Sagan, bringing her out of her unconsciousness. (He also recognized among the bugbear's meager horde some supplies belonging to the Lionshield Coster, a merchant organization trading out of the town of Phandalin)
As Moon Beam and Ronan approached the wolves, a goblin came 'round the corner and the wolves were able to break free of their bonds. All three did their best to savage the intrepid half-orc, but the party emerged victorious, albeit a little bloodied. They then found their way back up to the upper level and crossed the rope bridge. As they made their crossing, they were spotted by a goblin, who rallied the remaining goblin forces in the cave to attack. The half-orc Moon Beam, having regained his calm after succumbing to his darker impulses, reminded the goblin of the carnage that the heroes had wrought upon the goblins they had met earlier in the gave and urged him to surrender. The goblin, which the heroes overhear is named "Stinky," to no one's greater surprise than his own, complied, throwing down his weapons and retreated behind the heroes.
The three goblins that followed were not so easily swayed, and combat resumed. The heroes charged the goblins and steel met steel in the narrow cavern, eventually resulting in three dead goblins (after more than a few clumsy attacks missed their marks). But amid the tumult in the cavern, another goblin made its way toward the party's flank, doing some serious damage from the rear. Jorel climbed down from the bridge to attack the goblin, but failed to make his attacks count. After the goblins in the narrow passage were defeated, Moon Beam decided to join the fray by leaping from the twenty foot bridge to the stream below, resulting in some serious knocks. But, perhaps due to his Orcish heritage, found himself badly wounded, but still breathing.
It was at this time, from parts deeper in the caverns that the players have yet to explore came the voice of Klarg, offering truce. The ever-perceptive Sagan, pulling from years of deep analysis and study of the vocal tones and undertones of the guttural Goblin tongue, recognized that the offer was genuine, and perhaps rose out of the bugbear's aspirations of greater glory crashing down around him. The remaining goblin in the cave lowered, but did not drop his weapons, not removing his eyes from the half-orc that stands near him that just completed the most bodacious cannonball dive he has ever seen.
