So, is anyone else watching GoT? Has anyone read the books? I have the second episode DVR'd, but the first episode has piqued my interest.
Edit: Oh yeah, dire wolf pups.

David, if you want, I can bring you the episodes on my flash drive. They are pretty much spot on to the book except for a few tweaks and minor changes in the sequence of events in the book to clarify a few things.

PS - Micah, it may seem slow, but in my opinion, read the book, and everything will feel amazing... It's really good. If you do the audio book route, each episode is 3 hours of the audio book.

Oh, I don't think it's slow at all. In fact, I had to back track when I missed some of the introduction of characters; I still couldn't identify names to characters, though I totally understand the relationships to one another. I think the pace is just fine and they've already created a lot of suspence, of which there are many faces: the northern threat from the White Walkers; the threat from across the sea; the threat from within the kingdom and incestuous relationship of the queen and her brother; the choice Lord Stark has to make as to whether he will stay in Winterfell or become the Hand of the King (and the danger that might bring to himself, the previous Hand of the King having been supposedly murdered). No, that's plenty fast for one hour of television. Does anyone have the audiobooks that I could borrow or copy? I read terribly slow but I have plenty of drive-time during which I could listen.

There are a lot of characters, and there are many more to come.
I think each character will only see a little screen time as the show progresses, with perhaps entire episodes focused only on certain characters (similar to the chapters of the book). Some characters who become important later (rather who later become a point of focus in the books) have appeared in the first two episodes, but haven't yet been named.
I'm loving Tyrion so far, just like in the books. Can't wait to see more.

I'm loving Tyrion so far, just like in the books. Can't wait to see more. To me, he is by far the most complex character thus far. Being one of the Lannister's, whom have shown their treachery, he could easily be distrusted by the observer. His hedonistic lifestyle could easily be attributed to some amoral ethos, much like Viserys. However, his brutal honesty (his own nature, Jon Snow, etc.) portray him as a more sympathetic character. Yes, he is a Lannister, but there seems to be more beneath the surface; I'm getting the sense that his goals don't exactly agree with or include those of his siblings. Perhaps he has deceived me, but I'm eager to see how it plays out.

I saw that - lol. I've been afraid to talk too much about the episodes here for that very reason -- thpoilerth! Then I thought - but it was the first damn episode? How could I spoil anything!? In other news: Georgre RR Martin posted on his livejournal today "Twas beauty . . . " with a picture of a dead King Kong. If you've been following, Martin refers to "A Dance with Dragons" as "Kong" a lot in his posts. This all implies that the latest book is now finished, but he has yet to post his "It's Done!" on his page. I know they have a publication date, but the book wasn't even finished before that was set, so hopefully now everything is good to go.

Hmm. Perhaps I should look into this series. See what it's all about and such.
